Extended
Boswell Digital Solutions LLC (BDS) is an independent software engineering and systems design company based in Lexington, Kentucky. Charles Boswell founded the company to build software systems that can be trusted, not merely demonstrated.
Boswell served in the U.S. Navy from 1993 to 1997. Before he wrote software, he spent 2002 to 2020 in public service: a year with the Kentucky Division of Air Quality, six years as a Forest Ranger Technician III with the Kentucky Division of Forestry, a year in forestry as a Department of the Army civilian at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and ten years as a Wildlife Biology Technician with the United States Forest Service. Over sixteen years of wildland fire operations, he led prescribed fire work and qualified as a Fire Incident Commander. Those environments taught a lesson that shapes the company today: systems must work under pressure, processes must be clear, and decisions must be accountable.
BDS operates on a simple principle: humans define intent, systems enforce it, and evidence proves it. Its systems are designed around deterministic workflows, explicit state transitions, enforceable boundaries, transparent behavior, and long-term maintainability. AI is treated as a tool, not an authority, and authority remains with the human operator.
The company's flagship product, AuthorForge, is a local-first authoring system for independent authors and small publishing companies. It is designed to bring drafting, lore, revision, cover preparation, and distributor-ready export into one governed workflow. AuthorForge is in development.
BDS also provides systems engineering services, including architecture, applications, websites, and technical advisory work. The company remains independent and intentionally structured, prioritizing engineering discipline over rapid expansion.
