We use this information to respond to inquiries, maintain and improve the website, and monitor performance and usage trends. We do not sell personal information.

3. Software applications (local-first design)

Our desktop software applications are designed to operate locally by default.

Unless you enable optional integrations, your manuscripts, research, drafts, and files remain on your device. We do not automatically collect or upload your content, and we do not access or monitor your local content.

4. Optional ecosystem features

Certain editions may allow optional integration with supporting services.

If you enable ecosystem features, limited data necessary to perform the selected function may be transmitted. Data handling is governed by the applicable product documentation and Ecosystem Terms.

We do not claim ownership of your content. Unless explicitly stated in a separate written agreement, BDS does not act as a data custodian for your content.

5. Citizen science and public contributions

If you submit ecological observations or other community contributions, you control what information you choose to share.

Shared contributions may become part of a community dataset where applicable. Personal information should not be submitted unless necessary for the feature. Specific product pages may provide additional guidance regarding public contributions.

6. Payments

Payments are processed through Stripe or other authorized payment providers.

We do not store full payment card information on our servers. Stripe's use of your information is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

7. Analytics

We may use privacy-conscious analytics tools to understand website traffic and product performance.

Analytics data may include device type, general geographic region, and usage statistics. We do not use analytics to access or inspect local manuscript content.

8. Data security

We implement reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information under our control.

However, no system can guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for securing their own devices and credentials.

9. Data retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to respond to inquiries, maintain business records, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not retain local manuscript content unless explicitly transmitted through optional features.

10. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding access to personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion of personal information, and restriction of processing.

Signed-in customers can request account and data deletion directly from the Data & account deletion controls on the account page. Deletion runs through a verifiable, cancellable lifecycle until processing begins.

If you connect our software to third-party services, those services operate under their own privacy policies.

We are not responsible for third-party data practices.

12. Children's privacy

Our products and services are not directed toward children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
